Military planning and liaison skills helped Fife’s health chiefs through the worst of the covid-19 pandemic.
British Army personnel helped to urgently deliver tens of thousands of vital personal protective equipment (PPE) to the region’s healthcare staff as part of the logistical, supply and relief planning support offered to health boards across the country.
Major Ali Maclaurin of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, and Major Craig Burns, from the 7th Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, have been based at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, throughout the crisis to support the local response.
The focus is now on planning for the remobilisation of health and social care services in the kingdom.
NHS Fife chief executive Carol Potter said: “To have access to the specialist expertise of the British Army has been incredibly valuable in helping us respond to the unique challenges posed by covid-19.”
