Nine people now facing charges after breaching lockdown rules at Fife woodland

A total of nine people have been arrested and charged after allegedly breaching lockdown rules at a woodland in Dunfermline.

Police Scotland said the group had been charged with culpable and reckless conduct following a mass gathering in Calais Muir Woods on June 12.

Four men aged 19, two men aged 18 and two women, aged 19 and 20, were this week reported to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.

It follows the arrest of a 22-year-old woman last month in relation to the same incident.

A date has yet to be set for any first court appearances.

Following what appeared to be a party in the woodland beside Dunfermline’s eastern expansion, a gazebo, seats, empty bottles and other rubbish were left strewn across a clearing.

It coincided with a spell of good weather amid lockdown restrictions aimed at preventing the spread of Covid-19.

At the time, police warned that antisocial behaviour would be “robustly dealt with”.

After the initial arrest of the 22-year-old woman, local officers said more would follow.

In relation to the latest arrests, a spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Following a police investigation, nine people have been charged with culpable and reckless conduct, following a mass gathering that occurred on June 12, 2020, within Calais Muir woods, against government covid guidelines.”
