The future of a St Andrews restaurant is in doubt after its owner entered administration.
Azzurri – which owns restaurant chains Zizzi and Ask – was sold in a £70 million pre-pack administration deal on Friday.
But around a quarter of the Italian restaurants will close as part of the process, putting 1,200 jobs at risk.
Zizzi operates from South Street in St Andrews. The branch is currently closed.
The rescue takeover was completed by TowerBrook Capital Partners, a US investment firm which has previously owned luxury shoe brand Jimmy Choo and Phase Eight, the clothing retailer.
A list of the restaurants to close was not made available on Friday.
It is the second threat to a St Andrews restaurant in as many days following reports Pizza Express was to reduce its estate. The pizza chain also has a Perth branch.
The St Andrews page on Zizzi’s website describes the restaurant as “temporarily closed”.
It adds: “Friends of Zizzi – we are firing up our ovens and opening our doors for eat in and takeaway in some of our restaurants.
“Other Zizzis (including this one) are taking a little longer to open as we’re phasing our reopening plan but we hope to be back with you very soon.
“When we do reopen in full you can still expect good food, great times and big pizza, with a few extra tweaks to ensure the safety of you and our teams.
“Watch this space…we can’t wait to reunite with you over a Rustica.”
The development follows several closures of restaurants in Tayside and Fife.
Bella Italia said its premises at Fife Leisure Park in Dunfermline will not reopen.
Frankie and Benny’s has also closed branches in Perth and Kirkcaldy.
Meanwhile Burger King has also warned it is looking to cut its number of stores.
