An investigation has been launched after hundreds of homes and businesses in central Fife were left without power for a time on Sunday morning.
Properties across the KY4 and KY5 postcode areas, which covers the likes of Kelty, Benarty, Lochgelly, Crossgates and Cowdenbeath, saw their electricity supplies suddenly cut out.
Engineers believe a power surge at a substation in the Kelty area may have caused the problems, but Scottish Power Energy Networks has pledged to look into what happened to prevent further power outages.
In a statement, the company said: “SP Energy Networks apologise for any inconvenience caused by the recent power cut affecting customers in the KY4 and KY5 postcode areas of Kelty, Benarty and Lochgelly.
We became aware of a fault at 8.46am and were able to restore supplies remotely from our control centre.
“We will carry out an investigation to understand what caused the supply to go off.
“For safety reasons our system is designed to shut down if a fault occurs and today the system worked correctly.
“Your power should now be back on and we do not anticipate a further disruption to your supply.”
