A Covid-19 scare at a Fife dockyard which saw hundreds of workers sent home was a false alarm, it has been revealed.
Staff at Babcock International’s site at Rosyth were told to leave on Thursday after a visitor at the 300-acre facility tested positive for coronavirus.
Day and night shift workers returned to their posts the following day, after Babcock said it was satisfied it was an isolated case with no further spread.
Deep cleaning was carried out and NHS Scotland was made aware.
The company has now said the initial test carried out on the visitor had produced a false positive result.
A spokesperson for Babcock said: “The initial covid-19 test on the individual who visited our Rosyth site last week produced a false positive result.
“The subsequent NHS covid-19 test was negative.
“The health and safety of everyone on our site is our highest priority and we will continue to ensure that all covid-19 protocols and precautions remain in place.”
