Spooctacular event planned at first Levenmouth Scarefest

Fifers are preparing themselves for a spooktacular event with the launch of the first Levenmouth Scarefest.

The hair-raising Halloween experience will involve creepy costumes, scary movies and buckets of popcorn during the two-day drive-in movie weekend.

The spine-chiller has been organised by events group Levenmouth Together in place of this year’s Buckhaven bonfire night, which had to be cancelled due to restrictions on large gatherings.

While the Scarefest will still involve the community, participants will be in their own cars.

Four classic films have been chosen by the public after an online survey, with something for all ages.

It will begin on October 31 at 5pm with family movie Hocus Pocus, followed by the original Halloween for adults at 8pm.

The following day, younger viewers will be treated to Matilda at 5pm, with the original Poltergeist on at 8pm for grown-ups.

All will be shown at East Fife FC’s car park and everyone is invited to dress up for a fancy dress competitions.

Organisers have warned there may also be a scare or two in store.

Events officer Shelle Ratcliffe said plans for a summer drive-in movie weekend had been postponed after another company organised a similar event.

“We were disappointed not to bring the area a summer drive-in movie ourselves but it has worked out quite well as the regular bonfire night celebrations had already been cancelled,” she said.

“Scarefest is a fun, family alternative.”

Tickets for the films are available to buy on Eventbrite or by logging on to the Levenmouth Together Facebook page.

Any profits from the event will go into group’s community chest, which allows local organisations to access small events grants.

Scarefest is the latest event to be organised by Levenmouth Together and follows successful food and drinks festivals, a three-day Christmas market and monthly car boot sales.

Plans for this year’s Christmas market have already begun.

Levenmouth Together is also looking for volunteers to join its events crew and anyone interested should email events@brag.co.uk or mratcliffe@brag.co.uk for information.
