Police have charged a man in connection with the theft of a £4,000 ring from a Fife jewellers.
The 18ct gold, 0.7ct diamond eternity ring was stolen from G. Masterton Jewellers in Leven last week by a man posing as a potential customer.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland, said: “A 23-year-old man has been charged following the theft of a ring from a jewellers in Leven.
“The incident was reported around 3.10pm on Tuesday, September 15 alleging a man had stolen a diamond ring worth a four figure sum from a jewellery store on the High Street.
“A 23-year-old was arrested and charged and he is due to appear at court at a later date.
Detective Constable Alan Shovlin, of Levenmouth CID, said: “We have been able to return the ring to the owners and we would like to thank them, as well as the public, for their help and cooperation during our investigation.”
Shop owner Janaya Kabamba said she’s both delighted and surprised that the ring has been recovered so quickly.
“I couldn’t believe it when investigating officers called be to say they had found the man they were looking for and had also recovered the missing ring.
“I had feared that the ring would have been disposed of, sold or melted down so to know it will be returning to us this week is brilliant news.
“As a small family business, to have such a loss as a £4,000 ring would have been devastating.
“Support throughout this ordeal has been overwhelming and the people of Leven have been so supportive.
“I can’t thank the police for their detective work as well as the public and The Courier newspaper enough for sharing our story.
“I’ve been told the ring will be returning to us on Wednesday and hopefully that’ll be the end of the drama.”
