Thousands turned out to enjoy the Balcormo Races on Saturday when Fife jockey Jamie Alexander won his first double at the event.
The 51-year-old owner from Cupar guided Allthekingshorses to victory in the men’s open and followed this up by finishing ahead of the field with Royal Chatelier in the Bruce Farms Northern Point-to-Point Association Club Members Race.
He said: “I nearly didn’t run the last one because the ground was too fast but I thought I’d give it a shot.
“The family were here watching so I’m very pleased.”
Mr Alexander was presented with the Drysdale Cup for best jockey by Mary Anne Braithwaite.
Just two horses finished the Rathbones Open Maiden Race after three riders fell.
One jockey required medical assistance for a split lip but there were no serious injuries.
The Fife Point-to-Point race meeting at Balcormo Mains drew a crowd of more than 2,000.
Organised by Fife Foxhounds, the event had added attractions this year including a country fair outlet and a rodeo bull.
Fife Point-to-Point secretary Fiona Drysdale said: “I’m pleased that we’re building up the crowd and people seem to have enjoyed it.”
The event recently lost one of its key backers with the death of Lundin Homes founder and chairman Rae Grieve.
Assistant clerk of the course Michael Reid said: “The organisers of the Fife Point-to-Point are indebted to Rae for his generous support over the years and hope the success of the day will be a fitting tribute to Rae, who helped make it possible.”
