A new walking and cycling initiative has been launched in west Fife in a bid to inspire people into getting more active this autumn.
The Inner Forth Futures Wanderings and Windings Autumn Challenge is open to all ages and is designed to encourage people to explore the area on foot or by bike.
The Inner Forth Futures group worked with local communities to create nine new trails around the Inner Forth area in 2019, called Wanderings and Windings, and a series of online challenges have now been developed.
Participants who complete their challenges will receive a free bespoke medal and certificate to celebrate their achievement.
A spokesperson for Inner Forth Futures said: “The Inner Forth is a beautiful part of the world all year round, but in autumn it’s even more special as the woodlands turn golden, the skies fill again with the wild geese returning, and our coastal saltmarshes and mudflats are home once more to the many thousands of waders and wildfowl that spend their winters with us.
“The challenges are part of the Scotland-wide celebrations for the Year of Coasts and Waters, highlighting the fantastic seas, rivers and lochs that are a big part of what makes this country so special.”
Both the walking and cycling challenges have five distances to choose from, and people are being urged to start any time from October 1 but finish by October 31.
Routes take in various sights around the Forth, such as a loop of the upper Forth estuary via Kincardine; rural estates and forestry between Dunfermline and Kincardine; and a walking loop between Dunfermline Abbey and the once bustling harbours of west Fife.
Others also cover parts south of the Forth, Bo’ness, Stirling, Alloa, Falkirk and Linlithgow.
Once the challenges have been completed, participants are being asked to submit some form of evidence to receive their medal and certificate.
That could be anything from a screenshot of a tracking app, photos taken on the route, or even simply a log of the distance covered.
