A popular Fife entertainment venue has been forced to close its doors after it was linked to a positive Covid-19 case.
Styx Glenrothes, which is in the town’s Caskieberran Road, has shut temporarily following news someone who was in the nightspot over the weekend had received a positive coronavirus test result.
It is not clear when the person at the centre of the scare was in the premises, which has prompted concern from patrons on social media, but health authorities are conducting contact tracing.
The venue was said to be fairly busy on Friday and Saturday night in particular.
A spokesperson for Styx Glenrothes confirmed: “We have been informed that someone who was in our premises at the weekend has tested positive for Coronavirus.
“For this reason we are remaining closed for the next two days so that we can get all of our staff tested and deep clean the premises.
“We have already had a company in this morning to start this process. We are urging anyone who may have symptoms to please get tested as soon as possible.
“Once we get the results back from our staff tests (normally 48 hours) we will know when we can re-open.
“Thank you for your patience with us through this difficult time but we have a duty of care to our staff and our customers and hopefully this is an isolated case.”
Anyone who develops any of the established symptoms of the virus, such as a fever; or a loss or change in taste or smell; or a new and continuous cough, should arrange testing using the UK Government Citizens’ Portal at: https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test or by calling 0800 028 2816.
