An unloved Kirkcaldy car park could be rebranded in a bid to boost its popularity.
Town councillors believe that promoting the Esplanade car park as “family friendly” may encourage more shoppers to make use of the multi-storey.
Nicknamed “the prison” for its unflattering exterior, it remains underutilised by local shoppers, despite its prime waterfront location and a major investment two years ago, that allowed for a complete refurbishment of two levels of the car park.
Upgrades totalling £175,000 were made, including the installation of improved internal lighting, wider parking bays and coloured floor surfaces.
However, with a direct road link to be opened up between the Esplanade and Charlotte Street shortly, councillors have suggested rebranding the car park to bolster its appeal.
Councillor Marie Penman said: “We should be promoting it as family friendly.
“There are wide bays and it is well lit. It’s great if you have young children and it gives you direct access to the Mercat.”
Councillor Neil Crooks added that new signage could be purchased as part of the Charlotte Street project.
