Rail campaigners have demanded action towards bringing trains back to Levenmouth as soon as Parliament is reconvened.
Members of Levenmouth Rail Campaign (LMRC) say pledges of support for the bid to reinstate a rail link between Leven and Thornton are not enough and will seek an early meeting with the transport minister after the election.
All the main parties standing for Holyrood this week have indicated they are in favour of the link, while the Greens and Labour have made specific commitments in the manifestos.
But this is not enough for the campaigners who claim the time for action has come amid a growing sense of unfairness that Levenmouth is being overlooked while more prosperous areas benefit.
LMRC chairman Eugene Clarke said: “It’s great that two of the parties have mentioned this in their manifesto and have said that if elected they wll pursue our campaign vigorously and that the others have also shown support.
“However, the fact remains that the Levenmouth area is the largest free-standing settlement in Scotland without a rail link.
“In addition there have been two objective studies which have backed the reinstatement.”
He added: “What we need now is a clear statement of commitment from the Scottish Government – whatever party is in control – showing that they recognise the crucial impact the line will have upon the economy, the environment and the current social inequalities of the area.”
Mr Clarke called on supporters to hammer home the message to any candidates they have contact with.
