A pandemic means the 2020 Kingdom FM Local Hero Awards will be a little different this year, but that will not stop Fifers from celebrating the phenomenal achievements of inspirational people.
Over the next fortnight, Kingdom FM and The Courier as media partners will be celebrating the great and the good across the region and lauding those who have made people’s lives a little easier during lockdown.
Normally the awards are handed out during a ceremony on one night, but due to Covid-19 restrictions that will not be not possible this year.
However, Kingdom FM has been inundated with stories of people doing their own things to help others in many different ways, and nominations in 19 different categories have been whittled down to just three finalists in each.
All of the finalists will be featured on air and in The Courier throughout this week, and the winners will be revealed the week commencing October 26.
Barry Snedden, Kingdom FM sales manager, said: “Nobody could ever have imagined the unprecedented times we’re now living in.
“People say the worst of times bring out the best of people and that’s something as a station we’ve been hearing a lot about over lockdown.
“I can’t wait to hear more about those Fifers and the things they’ve achieved in the most challenging of times.”
Vivian Clarkson, Kingdom FM’s event co-ordinator, said: “This year’s awards will be memorable for many different reasons.
“Every year I am astounded at the quality of nominations we receive and I look forward to hearing this year’s truly awe-inspiring stories.”
Kingdom FM Local Hero Awards 2020 is supported by Stagecoach, Purple Bathrooms and Kitchens, Port of Rosyth – Forth Ports Scotland, VELUX, Optos, Part-Time Study at the University of St Andrews and It’s Beds and Pine.
Extra categories have been added this year to highlight the work being done across Fife’s communities.
They are: Act of Kindness, Carer of the Year, Best Family, Volunteer of the Year, Best Community Group, Key Worker Award, Green Initiative, Best Neighbour, NHS Hero, Star Teacher, the Mary Leishman Award, New Business Start-Up, Fundraiser of the Year, Sports Person of the Year, Unsung Hero, Best School, Child of Achievement, the Provost Award and Home Grown Talent.
Finalists in each category will be profiled on air at 9.15am, 11.15am, 1.15pm and 3.15pm every day this week and also in The Courier.
