A blind man was left badly shaken after he was viciously assaulted by a group of youths in broad daylight in a popular Fife public park last month, police have revealed.
The man had been walking in Kirkcaldy’s Beveridge Park at around 1.30pm on Wednesday, September 23, when he was set upon – apparently without warning – by a number of assailants.
Police have now appealed to members of the public for any information which may help officers find those responsible for the sickening assault.
Statements given to police by the victim suggest the culprits were possibly teenagers, and has given rise to the theory that they may have been local school children.
The man was not thought to be seriously injured in the assault, but was left badly shaken and distressed by what happened.
It is understood the man had been walking in the park near to the main entrance at the south side of the park, nearest Abbotshall Road’s junction with Balwearie Road.
The area is distinctive as it is the entrance where there is a large Kirkcaldy Rugby Club sign informing passers-by of the team’s next fixture.
Due to the timing of the assault, police believe the park may have been busy with visitors and dog walkers and hope someone may recall seeing either the victim or groups of youths in and around the area.
The road leading alongside the park is also a busy road for motorists travelling north and west from the Esplanade and Links areas of town, so anyone who may have been driving it that area are also being asked to think about where they were at the time.
