Around 20 jobs are to be created after plans for a drive-through bakery in Leven were approved by councillors.
Stephens, which already has a number of outlets across the region, submitted a planning application for the new branch to the south of Turpie Road near the existing Aldi supermarket.
The matter was taken to the central and west Fife planning committee after six objections were received, citing concerns about the impact on existing businesses, increased traffic in the area and the fact it should be located closer to the town centre.
However, councillors have backed the plans after local authority planners assured them that all material concerns had been addressed.
Stephens say the new branch will include a drive-through element, and people will also be able to buy products in-store – although there will be no seating.
Documents submitted with the application noted the expectation that around 500 motorists will use the drive-through service every day, with only one delivery lorry required at 5am each morning.
Levenmouth SNP councillor David Alexander said: “I’d imagine that some of the 500 expected customers they’re expecting will be coming across from Diageo.
“They’ll be walking over there to get their food and then walking back.
“I don’t see the amount of traffic being generated from that will increase the 500. It’s going to be pedestrians.”
New car parking spaces will be created, which will be shared with the Aldi store. Two electric car charging points will also be included.
