There’s a chance to become a citizen scientist by Mothing Around the Forth this week.
The Inner Forth Landscape Initiative has teamed up with local moth enthusiast Professor David Bryant to run a series of seven free workshops around the inner Forth area in Stirling, Falkirk, Clackmannanshire and Fife.
They will give people of all ages a chance to discover more about this declining species, have a go at moth trapping and generate wildlife records for Butterfly Conservation’s UK wide survey of moth numbers and distribution.
The first workshop will take place on Saturday near Grangemouth and will be followed by other events until August at various venues.
In Fife an event will run on Thursday July 14 in Devilla forest.
Sessions are free, but priority for later sessions will be given to those who attended the first session.
IFLI community engagement officer Kate Fuller said the series was a fantastic opportunity to visit a range of locations to uncover the different moths that call this corner of central Scotland home.
All records generated will feed into Butterfly Conservation’s upcoming Moth Atlas and be a valuable contribution to nature conservation and understanding.
Advance booking is essential as places are limited. Contact 01324 831568, or email info@innerforthlandscape.co.uk.
