A clamour for flu jabs at a makeshift Fife vaccination clinic has caused major problems for a local funeral parlour.
Inconsiderate car parking outside Steven Stewart Funeral Directors in Cupar’s Provost Wynd has seen the business’ main access blocked on several occasions in the last few weeks, leading to concerns funeral services may be delayed as a result.
The situation has arisen as NHS Fife carries out its flu vaccination programme at venues across the region including, in Cupar, a scout hall across the road from the funeral directors’ premises.
Steven Stewart, who runs the business, said his patience with people parking in front of his business premises was wearing thin and appealed to members of the public to use common sense when parking.
“We have had numerous occasions where they have blocked the road to our premises even parking directly in front of our gates,” he explained.
“A number of times when we have asked them to move we have been verbally abused, we even had someone telling us they wouldn’t be long whilst we had a hearse and limousines waiting on the road to get in to our work.
“How would these people feel if it was their loved one’s funeral that may be held up because of these people’s attitudes?”
He said: “Now I know people have to go about their business every day but please have a bit of consideration and respect for our business.”
Mr Stewart pointed out that there is access to the hall from the public Bonnygate Car Park and urged people to use it.
He also noted that he had no issue with either the staff offering the flu jab or the people who are in charge of the Scout Hall, merely those parking outside his business.
“I’ve put cones out but believe it or not folk get out their cars and move them, also had someone drive over them,” he continued.
“I even put my wheelie bins out only for one guy to drive into them and push them along the pavement.”
