A 78-year-old Fife man was four times over the drink-drive limit when he smashed into a parked car.
James Wilson had been drinking all day before he decided to go for a drive in Cardenden.
Depute fiscal Fiona Nairn told Dunfermline Sheriff Court that at around 8.20pm another motorist travelling behind Wilson could see he was driving erratically before colliding with the rear of a parked vehicle.
The impact caused this car to be pushed off the road over a pavement and into a hedge, with extensive damage being caused to both vehicles.
Wilson told police afterwards: “I’ve been drinking all day. I’ve come home and decided to jump in the car to go elsewhere. Within the first 30 seconds I knew I was incapable of driving but I carried on.
“Luckily no-one was hurt. I stand guilty.”
Wilson, of Kirkburn Drive, Cardenden, admitted that on February 14 in Cardenden Road he drove a car carelessly, lost control and caused it to collide with a parked vehicle, causing damage to both cars and injury to himself.
He also admitted driving with excess alcohol. His reading was 88 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.
Defence solicitor Ian Beatson said his client was a first offender who had been drinking with his elderly cousin in the Cowdenbeath area that day.
Mr Beatson added: “He accepts he acted extremely foolishly by getting in the car. He doesn’t intend ever to drive again.”
Sheriff Charles MacNair fined Wilson £735 and banned him from driving for two years.
