A Ballingry teenager who had a knife in the playground of his former high school has been given a custodial sentence.
Kieran Smith was seen playing with the knife by concerned teachers who contacted police.
Smith was initially given a community payback order but was back in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court after two breaches.
The 18-year-old, of Martin Crescent, previously admitted that on May 26, 2014, at Queen Anne High School and Pilmuir Street, Dunfermline, he was in possession of a knife.
Solicitor Roshni Joshi said her client was a young man with “a number of ongoing difficulties”.
Sheriff Charles MacNair pointed out that Smith had made his situation worse by telling lies to a social worker who was writing a report for the court.
He told Smith: “You have wholly failed to engage with this order. It was imposed for a very serious offence, having a knife at a school during school hours.”
Smithwas sent to a young offenders’ institution for three months.
