Three charities have each swung a £30,000 windfall thanks to golf’s Scottish Championship.
Children’s charity Chas, cancer caring centre Maggie’s Fife and the St Andrews-based Hamish Foundation will each receive £10,000 from the European Tour’s #GolfForGood initiative.
They were selected by the Fairmont Hotel, which hosted last month’s championship.
In addition, Dunnikier Park Golf Club in Kirkcaldy will receive range balls used during the tournament and donated by Callaway, the official ball of the European Tour, in recognition of its efforts to encourage juniors to take up the sport.
Elspeth Caldow from Milnathort was also rewarded with a prize of an overnight stay at the Fairmont, for her efforts to run and fundraise for her local community centre.
Laura Campbell from Chas, which provides palliative care and respite support to children and young people with life-shortening conditions, said the cash boost was appreciated now, more than ever.
The community fundraiser said: “We are thrilled that the Fairmont chose us as one of the local charities to receive this funding from the European Tour’s #GolfForGood initiative.
“This is an incredible amount of money to receive and will make a huge difference to help keep the joy alive for all the children and families we support at Chas.”
Lorraine Garvie, the Fairmont’s commercial director, said she was pleased to support all three organisations.
“It was a pleasure to nominate three local charities to benefit from the generous donation by the European Tour after a successful week of hosting the Scottish Championship at the resort.
“Having worked with all three charities, we know these funds will go a long way to support the tremendous work they do for the community, particularly during these challenging times where fundraising events are at a minimum.”
The Maggie’s Centre in Kirkcaldy provides emotional, financial and practical support to families impacted by cancer.
The Hamish Foundation, set up by friends Debbie MacCallum, Maggie Picken and Linda Ann Beaulieu, raises funds to improve facilities for children and families in St Andrews.
