Slip-ups caused by slippers could become a thing of the past thanks to a new Fife project.
Fife Council has launched a slipper exchange project in a bid to help prevent older people tripping and falling.
The scheme encourages older people to swap their old “sloppy slippers” for new ones which fit properly and already proving popular following its launch at the Caledonia sheltered housing complex in Ladybank.
Events will now take place across the kingdom alongside the long-running electric blanket testing and adaptor exchange schemes.
Safer Communities committee chairwoman Margaret Kennedy thanked Councillor Fiona Grant who came up with the idea of the slipper exchange through her work as a GP.
She said: “This is a really simple but effective way of helping older people move around more confidently.
“Many elderly people end up in hospital as a result of falls and trips in their homes every year.”
