An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after being involved in an accident with a car being chased by police in Fife.
The woman was one of two pensioners travelling in a Renault Scenic which was hurled on to its roof in the crash in Oakley.
The male driving the other car was also injured and was said to be in the hands of the police.
Witnesses said the man was being pursued at speed by officers at the time of the crash.
The incident happened on Sir George Bruce Road around 4pm after uniformed police officers signalled for a silver Honda to stop.
The vehicle made off and then collided with a blue Renault Scenic car a short distance away.
A spokesman for Police Scotland’s Fife Division said the full circumstances are still being investigated. However, the spokesman confirmed police had been pursuing the car for a short distance before the crash happened.
Sunday’s incident came just three days after 33-year-old nurse Jill Pirrie tragically died after being hit by a car being chased by police in Edinburgh.
That incident is being probed by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) and three people remain in custody.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed one elderly woman was removed from the Renault by firefighters before being taken to the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, for a precautionary check.
