The Proclaimers might not be able to make it, but villagers in Gauldry are still gearing up for the grand opening of their new community cinema on Friday.
The Scottish film, based on songs from Auchtermuchty’s finest singing duo Craig and Charlie Reid, has been selected to kick off the new project, which was the brainchild of local man Jack Cockin.
Films will now be regularly shown in the Village Hall, with Sunshine in Leith being shown at 7pm on Friday.
And although a world tour has prevented The Proclaimers from attending, the band has wished the initiative all the best of luck.
“I had the idea a couple of years ago to try and set up a community cinema in our village,” Mr Cockin explained.
“I decided to put out a questionnaire with about six questions about the idea to every house in Gauldry and Balmerino, to gauge the response. We had only one negative response.
“I then took the idea to the Morison Duncan Hall Management Committee, which overseas the village hall and has charitable status. They thought it a good idea, so I began applying for funding on their behalf.
“We thought the opening film should be a feelgood movie and something the villagers would enjoy, so we decided on Sunshine on Leith.”
An Awards for All Scotland grant for nearly £5,000 was enough to purchase and install the necessary equipment in the hall.
