A Glenrothes dancer put on a performance fit for the Queen at the monarch’s 90th birthday celebrations on Sunday.
Danielle Law was one of a handful of selected Highland dancers who performed for Her Majesty as part of her landmark festivities at Windsor Castle.
The 21-year-old performed the famous sword dance for the star-studded spectacular after a gruelling rehearsal schedule.
One of only eight dancers selected to perform for the historic occasion, Danielle said that the experience was one she would never forget.
“When I was selected I was told that I could not tell anybody, which was really hard,” she said.
“I did tell my mum in the end but I had to make sure that she wouldn’t tell anybody.
“The rehearsals were hard work and we were waking up, dancing, and not finishing to around 11 or 12 at night.”
Having started dancing before the age of three under the watchful eye of teacher Sarah Hendry, Danielle is no stranger to the limelight.
This summer will mark the former Glenrothes High pupil’s fifth year appearing in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and she is also a regular competitor in Highland dancing events across the country.
Rehearsals for the Tattoo start in the summer, though Danielle will continue to dance at events in the coming weeks, as well as working at a Glenrothes hotel.
A music student at the University of the Highlands and Islands in Perth, she had been hand-picked to appear before royalty by Aileen Robertson, Highland dance director of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Reliving the experience, Danielle said that she had performed for almost all of the royal family during her spell in London.
“We performed at both Windsor Castle’s Long Walk and in the arena itself,” she said.
“The floor had a slight slope in it so we had to make sure we knew what we were doing.
“At our rehearsals the Queen met and had a conversation with us all and on our first night we had Princess Anne in the audience.
“Prince Andrew and Prince Edward attended the next evening, and on the last night the Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were there.
“It was an amazing experience.”
