The awarding of a world’s first contract to a Fife engineering firm is proof that the region has one of the “most skilled” workforces in the world, it has been claimed.
A multi-million pound contract has been awarded to the Rosyth-based engineering firm Babcock as part of the giant Hornsea Project One development taking place off the Yorkshire coast.
The deal, confirmed by the Danish firm DONG Energy, will see construction of the world’s first offshore reactive compensation station, one of the project’s key components, take place in the Kingdom.
Local MP Douglas Chapman said: “To have a world’s first in our Dunfermline and West Fife constituency is a huge boost for the area.
“This is a big development for Scotland’s renewables sector
“The complexity and scale involved in creating this station is impressive and is clearly one that the experienced workers at Rosyth are well-equipped for.
“It yet again demonstrates that the dockyard’s workforce is one of the most skilled and efficient in the world.
“This contract means exciting times for local industry and more work until 2018.It means jobs in procurement, engineering, project management and fabrication and Babcock should be applauded for making this happen.”
