Children in Fife have shared in the last awards from a multi-million pound fund aimed at helping youngsters get the best start in life.
From a gardening club to a gymnastics club, five Fife groups are sharing £34,091 from the Communities and Families Fund, a joint venture between the Big Lottery Fund and the Scottish Government.
With a budget of £6 million, the programme has funded 753 grassroots projects aimed at improving the quality of life of children under eight years old.
Among the final groups to benefit is the Broomhill Gardens Community Group, based in Burntisland, which received £3,830 to run a programme of workshops for families in their community garden.
Chairperson Jurga Turner said: “We are extremely pleased to be granted funds for our community gardening programme.
“We focus on giving people basic skills to grow their own food and encourage more sustainable living.
“With our new funding we are planning to redevelop and improve some existing areas to make them more accessible for kids and families and hopefully provide an even better and more fun experience for Burntisland’s would be gardeners.”
Other projects receiving funding include Aberdour Playgroup which will buy movable fence panels to create a safe outdoor space with its £2,069; Acrobay Gymnastics Club which received £10,000 for soft furnishings for its new home; Home-Start East Fife which will establish three support groups with its £10,000 and Muirhead Outreach Project which will use its £8,192 for weekly groups.
