The Fife family of a disabled boy whose specialised trike was stolen have been overwhelmed by the response to their story.
Businesses and individuals have rallied round to help after the three-wheeled bike bought for Joe Carberry was stolen from Castle Furniture Project in Cupar.
It is likely 14-year-old Joe, of Glenrothes, will be on the road soon after Kingdom Kids, Mission Cycles and Leslie Bike Shop offered to have a new trike purpose built for him.
In addition, there have been countless other offers from kind-hearted members of the public keen to help.
Joe’s mum Michelle, 49, said: “We cannot believe how kind and supportive everyone has been.
“Joe will be delighted when he hears the news that Kingdom Kids, Mission Cycles and Leslie Bike Shop have arranged to have a new trike built especially for him.
“We cannot thank them enough for their very generous offer.
“We have had so many similar offers that we simply can’t begin to express how much this means to us.
“Thank you to everyone who was willing to help buy a new trike for Joe.
“All of this would not have been possible if it were not for Castle Furniture Project. They gave us the opportunity to purchase the trike in the first place and were instrumental in gaining publicity to try and locate it after it was stolen.”
The family had paid £55 for the trike and it was at the project’s Cupar premises while it was checked for safety.
Joe, who is blind and has autism, had been looking forward to getting out on the trike because his disability makes it difficult for him to play like other children.
“We really never expected the amount of publicity generated by this appeal,” said Mrs Carberry.
“We were gutted when we heard the trike had been stolen but all the kindness and support shown by everyone concerned has really restored our faith in humanity.
“Although Joe is very fortunate in being offered a brand new trike, we still hope the original one can be located.
“The family who donated it originally wanted it to go to someone who could really benefit from it.
“We hope it can still be found and passed on to another special child.”
