Police are hunting vandals who knocked over more than 65 headstones at a Fife cemetery.
The headstones were damaged at Leslie Cemetery on Kinross Road in an act that Police Scotland has labelled a “deplorable act of vandalism”.
The incident is believed to have happened over this past weekend of May 28 and 29.
Police are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone who knows anything about the vandalism to come forward.
Inspector Joanne McEwan, of Glenrothes Police Station, said: “This sort of incident causes a great deal of distress to families who’ve lost loved ones, and will no doubt be met with shock and sadness in the village and wider community.
“This is a truly deplorable act of vandalism and we are appealing to anyone who has any information that would help our enquiries, please speak to a police officer.
“I’d urge anyone who saw or heard anything unusual at the cemetery to contact us.”
Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555111.
