Hundreds of people are expected to visit the Markinch Highland Games this Sunday.
The town’s annual games, which take place in John Dixon Park, are always popular with local residents and visitors alike with a great mix of traditional and new events for all the family to enjoy.
The pipe band contest is the oldest of its kind in Scotland and the march past of the massed bands at the close of the games is a spectacle not to be missed, while the day’s proceedings will be presided over by this year’s Chieftain Sandy Imrie.
Events get underway at 11am with the solo piping competitions followed by all the other events at 12.30pm. The games wil be officially opened at 2pm by the chieftain.
Games secretary Shane Fenton said: “The Markinch Highland Games always attracts a keen and enthusiastic crowd of all ages, which makes for a fantastic atmosphere. We have a great range of activities and entertainment lined up this year for everyone to enjoy.
“A lot of hard work goes into making the games happen year-on-year and i’d like to thank all our volunteers, committee members, competitors and sponsors for their continued support.”
Tickets can be purchased on the day at the gates, and entry costs £6 for adults and £3 for concessions and children under 16.
