A Fife fisherman netted more than he bargained for after making a sinister discovery.
The keen angler was out fishing at Cameron reservoir when he spotted a Smith and Wesson revolver sticking out the mud.
The grim find was possible as the loch has been drained for the first time in many years.
Scottish Water has been carrying out work which has seen workers drain half the loch.
The fisherman said the badly corroded gun was sticking out of the mud about 30 yards off the end of the high and dry pier.
Only a small silver button on the stock of the gun had survived pretty much intact after years under water.
A fellow angler who witnessed the find said: “I don’t know enough about guns to tell its vintage, but pretty sure a revolver flung into the depths of a loch from the end of a pier won’t have an entirely innocent back story.”
