Three police officers have been treated by paramedics following a stand-off in Dunfermline.
It is understood that a one police officer had a chemical solution poured over them from an upper floor window, while another was targeted with boiling water.
Officers had been called to Lomond Crescent at around 2pm following a report of racial abuse. They later cordoned off the street as the incident escalated.
Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) also attended and reportedly cut off gas to the entire street.
Local residents said the woman, who has not been identified, had been hanging out the window shouting abuse at officers, as well as throwing liquids at them.
One said: “She’s scalded two police officers. The fire service are here as well because seemingly she’s got petrol in there.”
Another added: “She apparently attacked the police with cleaning fluids – bleach.
“She’s got petrol in there and that’s why they haven’t gone in yet, in case it blows up.”
Another resident speculated that the woman had “flipped” after losing her hairdressing business.
She said: “She lost her business and that’s why she’s flipped.”
It is believed that the woman had recently been discharged from a psychiatric unit.
Another resident said the woman was normally a quiet person who “keeps herself to herself”.
“She’s not like that,” she said. “She’s got a heart of gold. Something has happened to make her go like this and the police have come along and it’s upset her.”
The incident was brought to an end at around 8.20pm when police in riot gear broke down the door using a battering ram, while the woman continued to try and pour boiling water over them.
The woman was then led to a police vehicle in handcuffs.
A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed that they had attended at the address.
He said: “While in attendance, a substance was thrown at three officers and paramedics were called.
“The officers did not sustain any injury and there is no risk to the wider public.
“The incident came to a peaceful conclusion at around 8:20pm and a woman has been arrested in connection with this matter.
“The local community is thanked for their patience and cooperation.”
