Police have revealed they are treating the sudden death of a well-known Dunfermline man as “unexplained” – seven days after he was discovered unconscious at home.
Robert Kennedy, 63, was found within his property at Halbeath Road on Wednesday June 1 and was rushed to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital where he later died.
A week on, detectives are now appealing for information in connection with their investigation and have urged anyone with information about Mr Kennedy’s last movements to get in touch.
Mr Kennedy was a former roadie with legendary hard rock band Nazareth, and was a well-known figure on the music scene.
Detective Inspector John Anderson, of Dunfermline CID, said: “He had been the roadie for the band Nazareth for almost 20 years and would often meet friends in local pubs for drinks and go to various venues to watch bands.
“His death has come as a great shock to his family and friends.
“At this time we are treating Robert’s death as unexplained whilst we carry out our investigations.
“We are following a number of lines of inquiry to support Robert’s family and supply them with as much information as possible around his death.”
DI Anderson confirmed that initial investigations had ascertained that Mr Kennedy was out with friends watching the Champions League final on the Saturday night before his death, May 28, and had gone on to the East Port Bar before moving onto the City Hotel.
They then ended up in The Brass House during the early hours of the morning.
“We also know Robert arrived back home shortly after 2 am but have yet to establish how he got home,” DI Anderson noted.
“I’m keen to speak to anyone who saw him that evening, particularly any taxi drivers in the town who possibly took him home.
“I’m also keen to speak to anyone who had contact with Robert between Sunday May 29 and Wednesday June 1 when he was found in his house.
“We have also established during our inquires that Robert had been seen with injuries to his face after he had been to watch a band called “Honk” at the Leroy Day Charity Gig at PJ Molloys on the evening of Sunday May 1.
“This was the weekend of the May bank holiday and I would appeal for anyone who recalls seeing Robert that evening or who has knowledge about how Robert may have come by these injuries to contact us.”
A spokesperson for the band Nazareth paid tribute to their “dear friend and brother” via social media.
“It’s with great sadness and a collective heavy heart that we announce the death of our dear friend and brother Rab Kennedy,” the statement read.
“As all of you serious Nazareth fans know, Rab was a cherished and much loved member of our road crew for almost 20 years.
“He was an easy going guy with a wonderful sense of humor who made friends all around the world as he toured with the band.
“We’re a family when we tour and we just lost one of our family.
“Our thoughts are with Robert, his dad and his sister Kathleen at this time.”
