A Fife man has been jailed for 15 months for a knife attack which left his long-time friend scarred for life.
In the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court was 47-year-old Dell McBennett, who stabbed his friend of over 20 years in the face.
He previously admitted that on 19th March last year at his home in Leighton Street, High Valleyfield, he assaulted John Kenny, struggled with him and struck him on the head with a knife to his injury and permanent disfigurement.
Depute fiscal Louise Graham said the two men were friends before the assault and Mr Kenny went to McBennett’s home at around 9.25pm.
An argument broke out and the two started struggling with each other before McBennett picked up a knife.
The victim was later taken to hospital with a cut to his cheek and another to the eyebrow.
Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison said his client had been heavily under the influence of drugs at the time and could not remember what the row was about.
“There was a knife lying on top of some clean laundry. He accepts he jabbed him on the side of the face with the knife.”
The cut to the eyebrow was presumably caused by a punch, he added.
“He has struggled with substance misuse for 20 years,” said Mr Morrison.
Sheriff Craig McSherry said that given his record and the offence he was jailing him.
