Highland Games season is now well and truly in full swing, although the weather in Fife did its best to try and hamper some of the festivities at the weekend.
Despite the damp and dreich conditions though, people still descended on Cupar and Kirkcaldy to watch some of the traditional Highland Games events on offer in both towns.
Cupar Highland Games took place in Duffus Park on Saturday, with visitors treated to an array of running, cycling and heavyweight events, while Highland dancers were also among those providing the entertainment.
This year’s event took on special significance following the death of Games stalwart John Hendry earlier this year, and as such the Games were labelled the John Hendry Memorial Games.
His son Alan was also this year’s chieftain and led the parade from St John’s Church ahead of the opening ceremony.
Elsewhere, crowds braved the elements for the second ever Kirkcaldy Beach Highland Games – although organisers probably would have hoped for better weather.
The sun stayed away and was replaced with cold, wet and windy conditions, but all of the events on the waterfront went ahead as planned.
Suzie Hall, BID co-ordinator for organisers Kirkcaldy4All, said: “We’ve been hampered a bit by the weather and it was quite cold, blowy and wet, so I think some spectators might have been put off.
“But all of the athletes and competitors did really well and fingers crossed we’ll get better weather and go again next year.”
