Tests to establish how man found in Glenrothes house died

The scene in Minto Crescent on Sunday afternoon.

A port-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body of a Glenrothes man whose death is being investigated by police.

Local officers say they are treating the death of the 54-year-old man, named locally as Ian Goodall, as “unexplained” after he was discovered in his home in Minto Crescent over the weekend.

Emergency services were called to the property early on Saturday morning after a report of concern for a person was received by police, although it is understood the man was dead when they arrived.

Further tests were due to be carried out yesterday to establish how Mr Goodall died, with officers not ruling out foul play at this stage.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: “Police in Fife are investigating the death of a 54-year-old man in Glenrothes.

“The discovery was reported at 9.40am on Saturday (11 June) at a property in Minto Crescent.

“The death is currently being as unexplained pending further enquiries.”

The end terraced property in Minto Crescent, which is not far from the town’s Glenwood Centre, was cordoned off by police as their investigation into how Mr Goodall died got under way on Saturday.

A solitary bouquet of flowers had also been placed on a grassy area just inside the cordon yesterday afternoon by way of tribute to the dead man.

Officers were conducting door-to-door enquiries yesterday to try and shed some light on exactly what happened, while uniformed police were stationed in a nearby car park to provide some public reassurance.

Neighbours said Mr Goodall had lived in the area for many years, and were shocked to see the police presence on Saturday.

One man, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s bad news all round to see that, but you can’t make any suppositions until you find out exactly what happened.”

Another passer-by, who lived in the Glenwood area but did not know the deceased, added: “It’s absolutely shocking – this place seems to be getting worse.”

Damage to the back door and window pane of the property in question could be clearly seen from the pavement running alongside the house, but it was unclear last night whether that was caused by emergency services trying to access the house or is part of the police investigation.
