A father rescued his two children during a lucky escape after the car they were travelling in burst into flames on a Fife street.
The incident happened at about 12.30pm on Friday on the B981 Hope Street in Inverkeithing.
The occupants of the Mazda managed to get out of the burning vehicle uninjured after it suddenly caught fire adjacent to the town’s Civic Centre.
‘I’ve never been so panicked in my life’
Responding to images of the fire on social media, mum Stacey Whiteman said: “Everyone is out OK, my kids were in the car and are out safe.
She added: “The car just started belting of smoke and went up within seconds.
“It was my kids and their dad in the car, I’ve never been so panicked in my life.
“Cars can be replaced, people don’t.”
One eyewitness said smoke appeared from underneath the vehicle before it quickly burst into flames.
Man dived out of car and grabbed youngsters from back, says eye witness
They added: “The car caught fire very quickly and it must have been frightening for those involved.
“I saw a man who must have been the driver dive out of the car and immediately grab two youngsters from the back.”
It is thought an electrical fault on the vehicle may have been the cause of the fire.
Fife crews were alerted and arrived to extinguish the blaze.
A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 12.36pm on Friday, February 12 reporting a car alight in Hope Street in Inverkeithing.
“One fire appliance was despatched from Dunfermline Fire Station and on arrival the vehicle was found to be well alight.
“Fire crews using a hose shield and breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the fire and left the scene at 1.15pm after making the area safe.”
