A number of new witnesses have come forward as investigations continue into the M90 accident which claimed the life of a young woman on Saturday evening.
The 29-year-old died as her car, a Citroen C4, was involved in a head on crash with another car on the southbound carriageway of the motorway near Rosyth.
Reports suggest one car was travelling in the wrong direction at the time.
A woman and two children, an 18-month-old boy and five-year-old girl, who were travelling in the other car, a Land Rover Discovery, were injured.
The driver was taken to the Victoria Hospital where her condition was described as stable.
One child was also taken to the same hospital but was later discharged while the second was ferried to the Sick Children’s Hospital in Edinburgh.
Neither are said to have life threatening injuries.
The road was closed into the following morning as crash scene investigators carried out their work to piece together what may have caused the horror crash which left fellow motorists stunned by the damage.
A police appeal for witnesses to come forward has been successful with a number of people already contacting Police Scotland.
While the name of the woman who lost her life has not yet been released, Sergeant Derek Allan of Fife’s road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the woman who died at this sad time.
“I want to thank the numerous witnesses who have so far come forward and assisted with our investigation.
“As always, we would still appeal for anyone with information who has not yet made contact to get in touch.
“I want to again thank the public for their patience while the closures were in place, which allowed emergency services to conduct the necessary investigations at the scene.”
