Scotland’s largest teaching union has passed a vote of no confidence in Fife College principal Hugh Logan.
The Fife branch of the EIS passed the motion after expressing serious concerns about the running of the college.
In particular, members had grievances over the scrapping of the automotive engineering courses as well as the college’s £1.9 million Arm’s Length Foundation (ALF).
Members said the money from that could have been used to run the courses which have been closed.
An EIS spokesman said it had no confidence in Hugh Logan and his senior management team to lead the college, nor with the college board.
He claimed there was a lack of communication between senior management and staff, students and local employers.
The vote followed an announcement by Mr Logan that he would retire on October 31.
A college spokesman said it was disappointed by the vote.
He said the issue of staff communication was being addressed and added: “We appreciate that the period since merger has been extremely challenging for staff and we recently undertook a staff survey to ensure we understood the areas that were causing staff most concern.”
The spokesman said the college’s ALF was set up as the only option to retain cash reserves in line with guidance from the Scottish Government and the Scottish Funding Council.
