Twenty-five years after Fife man Sandy Drummond was found murdered near his home in Boarhills, an investigative journalist has claimed police identified his killer.
Michael Mulford said that police had identified what they considered a prime suspect during a cold case review of Mr Drummond’s murder.
Mr Drummond was 33-years-old when he was found strangled on June 24 1991. Days earlier he had quit his job at Guardbridge Paper Mill and withdrawn money from his bank accounts.
Mr Mulford said the suspect identified by police is also dead and he believes the case is being kept open in case they can trace any accomplices.
He also said Mr Drummond was killed by a choke hold used in the martial art Ju Jitsu as post-mortems found no ligature had been used and there were no external marks to suggest pressure from hands or fingers.
“I unearthed the fact that, in a cold case review, the police identified a suspect, a serious suspect,” said Mr Mulford.
Police Scotland and the Crown Office refused to confirm whether a prime suspect had been identified , although they said the case is under ongoing review.
