A video posted online showing Steve McClaren’s hilarious reaction to Iceland’s shock victory over England has gone viral.
The young woman behind the clip, 22-year-old Carly Manderson from Dunfermline, described the reaction to her post as “crazy”.
Shared across numerous social media platforms, the clip of former England boss McClaren on Sky Sports had been viewed more than two million times.
“It was far too funny not to share. Absolutely classic,” said Carly.
She told The Courier she was watching the commentary on Sky Sports News, and not the actual match, because her dad had hogged the remote control.
“My dad owns the remote so we watch what he watches,” she said. “He was nervous watching the England game as he gets far too into the game.
“I was not bothered about the result either way. I had England to win in a bet, but the look on Steve McClaren’s face was better than any bet win.
“The reaction from the video I posted to Facebook has been overwhelming. When I initially posted the video I thought I would only receive a few likes from family and friends.
“I never once thought it would have been shared all over the world. I think my mum and dad laughing in the background made the video that little bit funnier!
“The reaction has been absolutely crazy.”
Sitting in the Sky Sports studio describing the action we were all watching on other channels, McClaren was asked to describe how England had reacted to Iceland’s equaliser in their last-16 tie at Euro 2016.
“Perfectly, no panic….it’s been the perfect response,” he insisted.
But his face dropped as Kolbienn Sigthorsson delivered the winner for Iceland.
