A pregnant teenager who committed a string of assaults against paramedics and police officers trying to help her has avoided jail.
Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard 19-year-old Dion Gunn had taken a legal high and had “downed a bottle of vodka” before attacking ambulance workers who were called to help her – scratching them, kicking out, spitting at them and trying to bite them.
Gunn also assaulted three officers who were called to the scene, including biting a female constable.
Gunn, of Ivanhoe Avenue, Lochore, admitted the offences when took place on July 5 last year at Natal Place, Cowdenbeath, and then Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.
Depute fiscal Fiona Nairn told the court that an ambulance had been called out to Gunn but, as soon as paramedics went to her aid, she began lashing out.
A police officer received a three-inch scratch and another was bitten on the arm. As Gunn continued to spit at those helping her, a spit mask was applied.
On arrival at hospital, Gunn threatened to kill two police officers who had to remain there for two hours as she continued to be “extremely violent”.
Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi said her client is now six weeks’ pregnant with her first child and had no memory of the incident which was “wholly out of character”.
But Sheriff Craig McSherry pointed out: “She says in the social work report that she had downed a bottle of vodka. That may have contributed to it.”
A six-month restriction of liberty order was imposed, and Gunn was warned she would be facing imprisonment “pregnant or not” if she breached it.
