The search for a missing man near Tayport is continuing into its third day.
Val Smernicki, 71, was last seen around 7.45pm on Sunday, and concern is growing for his welfare.
He is described as being 5 ft 11 inches tall, of slim build with short grey hair and clean-shaven. He wears glasses and when last seen was wearing a black hooded top, dark coloured trousers and black trainers.
Broughty Ferry lifeboat crews had been searching for a missing elderly man in the Tay near West Lights at Tayport on and Monday morning, but returned to the station at around 12.30pm.
They searched both north and south shores from the rail bridge to Buddon Point but did not find anyone.
Sergeant Neil Johnston of St Andrews police station said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for Val’s welfare since he is not in the best of health.
“Anyone with information is asked to please get in touch with us.
“Similarly if Val himself sees this appeal, we would ask him to contact us or his family to let us know he is safe and well.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on 101.
The lifeboats were initially called out at 8.54pm on Sunday but the search was called off because of poor light around two hours later.
During Monday’s search, the lifeboat was diverted to Tayport harbour to help a dog in trouble.
