An overnight road closure of the A92 between Preston roundabout and Tullis roundabout in Glenrothes will take place on Friday evening.
The work, needed after the River Leven bridge was damaged in a crash earlier this week, is scheduled to take place from 8pm to allow installation of temporary safety barriers.
Teams will work overnight to install the safety barriers and complete lining works at the bridge with the road reopened as soon as the work is safely completed.
The closure will be in place no later than 6.30am on Saturday morning.
During the closure traffic will be diverted between Preston roundabout and Balfarg via A911 The Queensway and B969 Western Avenue.
As a precaution, temporary traffic lights were installed on Wednesday July 13 to direct motorists away from damaged parapets on the bridge after it was struck by a vehicle earlier this week and these traffic lights will be removed once the barriers are in place.
Once the temporary barrier has been installed the carriageway will be reopened to traffic in both directions on narrowed lanes as the width of the road will be reduced.
A 30mph speed limit will remain in place following this installation until the full parapet repair has been completed.
