A Glenrothes community campaigner is asking people to rally round and demand improvements to a local play park.
Mick Green said that he wanted upgraded facilities installed at Carleton Park that would encourage youngsters to play together.
A previous plan to improve the ageing park was dropped by Fife Council following, it is claimed, a lack of public interest in the site.
However, keen to see the fortunes of the park turned around, Mr Green said that he hoped to mobilise people in the Woodside area of the town and campaign for improvements to be made.
“There are things there but they don’t get used,” said the former prison officer, 65.
“Most of the kids tend to go to Carleton Primary School to play football, but they don’t go to the park as there is nothing really there.
“I used to take my daughter to play there when she was young and nothing has been added to it for at least 20 years.”
Currently home to Glenrothes Rugby Club, Carleton Park is located on the extreme eastern edge of the Woodside area of the town.
Home to a number of sports pitches, its location often means that it is overlooked by parents looking to entertain their children, even those living in the adjacent neighbourhood.
Asked what he would like to see in place at the site instead, Mr Green added: “I want to see things installed that allow kids to play together.
“In my day there were climbing frames and roundabouts and you don’t seem to get these anymore.”
Fife Council confirmed that plans to upgrade the park several years ago had been shelved.
Alan Bissett, parks development officer, said: “A development plan was prepared to refurbish the play area at Carleton park.
“The initial idea was to try and establish a park development group to assist with consultation and funding.
“However a group was never established due to lack of interest and the project wasn’t taken forward.”
