A major project to double the size of a Fife nursery is officially complete.
Woodlands Family Nurture Centre in Methil has undergone a major expansion and refurbishment to include a brand new family wing and extensive outdoor play areas.
It means there is now space to accommodate more vulnerable children and deliver a range of family learning and parenting programmes in a welcoming and accessible environment.
Woodlands’ first head of service Betty Lindsay was on hand to open the family wing and kick off the celebrations.
Headteacher Clark Graham said: “I am delighted to officially open and celebrate the fantastic new facilities we have here at Woodlands Family Nurture Centre.
“This investment allows us to provide exciting classes, activities and support groups for parents and the local community.
“These brand new facilities are exactly what these parents deserve and allow us to support and help them as much as we possibly can.”
The completion of the new facilities at Woodlands is part of an ongoing programme of development and refurbishment of nursery facilities across Fife.
Fife Council has said it is further evidence of the commitment to breaking the cycle of disadvantage through early intervention in families with children under the age of three.
Woodlands now provides care and education for 128 children aged between three and five.
The construction of the new family wing also means staff can support up to 40 children between the ages of two and three.
The centre is open all year and for extended hours, meaning staff can provide flexible hours of care.
The new family wing offers parents and carers the chance to access additional support to help them bring up their children.
This ranges from baby massage and parent and toddler groups to more focused programmes delivered with other agencies.
Councillor Willie Campbell said: “The impact of the investment to improve the facilities at Woodlands and other nurseries and nurture centres across Fife cannot be under estimated.
“This work is enabling children to have the best possible start in life and is helping to make Fife the best place for a child to grow up.”
