Two men out on a fishing trip were rescued by the Anstruther Lifeboat after their dinghy started to drift. Both the inshore and all-weather lifeboats were launched at around 12.30pm on Saturday at the request of the coastguard. The tiny dinghy was drifting towards Elie’s Shell Bay. After being picked up by the all-weather lifeboat, the men were transferred to the inshore lifeboat, which took them to the harbour. A spokesman for the Anstruther Lifeboat said: “They weren’t in any immediate danger but they were in need of assistance. “They were prepared in terms of having lifejackets. “However, they didn’t have a VHF radio. Mobile signals aren’t reliable out at sea and a VHF radio is the best means of raising the alarm.”
