Police have launched an investigation after a woman was found dead inside a car in Glenrothes.
Officers were called to an area close to Cable Road in the town at around 9am on Monday, with further activity believed to be connected reported elsewhere in nearby Leslie.
The area around Stenton Road and Cable Road, near Glenrothes Recycling Centre, has been sealed off by officers.
Police said enquiries were at an early stage but added the death was not currently being treated as suspicious, with no arrests made.
A large area surrounding the vehicle, including access across the Stenton footbridge was sealed off by police.
The area included a nearby caravan park where residents were not allowed to enter or leave.
A number of company premises, also in Cable Road just a short distance from where the vehicle in which the woman’s body was found, remained cordoned off throughout the day.
One business owner said he had opened up at 7.30am as normal but was later denied access when he returned at 10.30am.
He said: “We returned to find officers had taped off Cable Street and there was a lot of police activity going on.
“We’ve not be able to get any access to the yard right up to around 3.30pm but have not been told whether our yards bare any connection with the discovery or how long we will kept out.”
A white-suited forensics team as well plain clothes detectives have remained at the scene all day as the investigation continues.
Further police activity at another address three miles away in Leslie is also understood to have been in connection with the unexplained death.
One local said there had been activity at the address earlier in the day on Monday.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers in Glenrothes were called to Cable Road around 9am on Monday August 9 to reports of the sudden death of a woman found within a vehicle.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are at an early stage.”
