A third person in Fife is being examined for the potentially fatal E.coli 0157 bug.
One person in the region is already confirmed to be affected by the strain, while health officials had previously stated that another person was being monitored.
On Friday, NHS Fife confirmed that a third potential case is now under investigation, with all three linked by a recent Scout trip to the Borders.
The trio are said to have attended the camp near Selkirk and health chiefs have urged anybody who visited the camp to seek medical assistance if they start to develop symptoms, such as diarrhoea and vomiting.
Investigations are underway to identify the source of the infection and steps have been taken to both identify those at risk, and reduce the likelihood of further infection.
Dr Charles Saunders, consultant in public health medicine, said: “Whilst the risk of further infection is small, I would encourage anyone who attended the scout camp and has experienced symptoms such as diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, bloody stools, stomach pain and fever, to seek medical attention.”
Meanwhile, the NHS has confirmed that 18 confirmed cases of E.coli 0157 remain in Scotland, linked to purchases of Dunsyre Blue Cheese earlier this year.
