Leuchars will be placed at heart of Scotland’s military presence through expansion of the base, the Defence Secretary has pledged.
Michael Fallon said £8 million has been invested in new facilities for the North East Fife outpost recently, adding cash will continue to be given to the area.
In an exclusive interview with The Courier, the Invergowrie-born Conservative MP insisted the transition to the home of the Scots DG has been a success.
He said: “Defence has to change with the times and it’s fascinating now to see the Army and the RAF together, working together for the defence of Scotland and the defence of the UK. We will go on investing here and this will be one of the major Scottish bases for years to come.”
Mr Fallon also vowed the Black Watch will “be with us forever” even if the historic regiment’s current home at Fort George is axed.
