Kirkcaldy Esplanade was taped off by police on Wednesday morning after a body was found in the water.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 8am.
Officers sealed off an area from the Thistle car park to Volunteers Green following the discovery.
Kinghorn’s lifeboat crew was also called out at around 8.15am but was stood down a short time later.
The body was recovered from rocks close to the slipway leading to the beach shortly after 10am.
One local, walking along the Esplanade, said: “I walk the beach front nearly every morning but was diverted by police when I got here around 8am today.
“It’s very sad to see and sadly the second such incident along Kirkcaldy seafront recently.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are currently in attendance in the Esplanade area of Kirkcaldy following the discovery of a body within the water.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained.”
A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “We were alerted by Police Scotland to launch in connection with an incident at Kirkcaldy Esplanade.
“Kinghorn lifeboat was launched but was stood down before they arrived.”
The discovery comes just seven weeks after another body was found in the same area.
